Its likely it is just smelling something or thinking about something.

    Humans do the same.

My cat stares at the wall behind me. Every frickin time I have to turn and check that it isn't a spider.

I sometimes think my digital camera can see things the human eye can't, for example its got an automatic infra-red focus which locks onto whatever the cam is pointing at, which is normal.
But sometimes when I'm pointing it at objects around my room, it locks onto something invisible and then the locking bars follow it across the viewfinder as if tracking an unseen moving entity, even though I'm not moving the camera.
But when I click the shutter there's nothing unusual in the pic.
Incidentally I live in New Street Plymouth UK which is supposed to be one of the most haunted areas in the city, my small apartment block was built on the site of the old Welchman's Arms tavern which stood here over 200 years ago.
Perhaps cat's eyes can also see things we can't..

My cat often just sits and stares at me.

But, of course... I'm no angel

    Sometimes he's more persistent...

but it's usually when he just want's attention...

    or, when he's thirsty...

But there's hell to pay if I ignore him...

    Cats' optical-apertures open to a vertical-perspective... like --> ()
whereas most everything else's eyes open to horizontal-perspective.

Cats see 'stuff' we don't, but probably what they're looking-at are optical-illusions on a vertical-plane.

Maybe they can. Just look at their eyes, who know what the hell they're able of seeing!

Cats do see into the ultra violet spectrum. They may see into the infra-red but I have not tested that.

Yes they do look at stuff we cannot see but whatever it is it is not solid.
Blessings in the name of my Lord Jesus Christ who came in the flesh and now sits at the right hand of our God on high.

    Well, angels won't be ghost-like... They'll be carbon-or-silicon based.

cats most advanced sense is hearing. When they seem to be staring at nothing, watch the ears moving. They are doing just that, staring at nothing, they are listening. Probably to something out of sight in the next room or outside.

How can I be sure of that claim? Perhaps I should have specified that I was stating an opinion, not a fact.

There is no right or wrong answer to whether or not they exist. Just like God. Well, as far as the human experience goes. Nobody on this planet can prove it.

Something seems to have spooked this cat.
There seems to be a faint shadow on the ceiling like Mothman.
Or it could be damp patches. Damp patches on ceilings are often associated with poltergeist manifestations..

No. Cats cannot see angels. This is on account of the fact that angels do not exist
    and are purely fictional.
We talk about civilization as though itís a static state. There are no civilized people yet, itís a process thatís constantly going on. As long as you have war, police, prisons, crime, you are in the early stages of civilization.

That was a really cute pictorial story. :)

Yes I believe cats can see things we can't. One night laying in bed with my cat sleeping next to me about 2am I was in a 3/4 sleep, eyes barely open laying there thinking I am seeing this black shaped arm reaching across me and petting the cat 'Sassy'. After mind my grasped what was going on I started waking up and the arm retreating back towards the door next to my headboard, I reached and turned on the light and looked at Sassy which she was now sitting up and her eyes were wide open looking at the door next to the bed. Angel, spirit, whatever I figure is friendly or wouldnt have been petting the cat.

Do you read Terry Pratchett GregSam?

If not I suggest you start, sharpish!

Probably the best one to start with in your case would be Mort.

Cats belong to our material world. Angels belong to our spiritual world. That is why I also think that cats cannot see angels.

My cat does that when he sees flies or moths. I've even caught him tracking dust I would never have detected without his "cat radar".

Even people get "spooked" when exposed to new and exciting stimuli when deprived of activity in unnatural surroundings(houses).

Spend more time in the woods people. "Spookiness" serves you well in the wilderness.

It's often known as "Hyper-Alertness" or "Fight or Flight".

Serves you well in the boonies. In modern shities, not so much. The sheeple ruined it once they started hiring lawyers instead of sheepdogs.
Now defending your own life is equivalent to attaining "boogyman" status.

    Sorry sheepdogs, sheeple suck!

Otherwise, ghosts are only as scary as you are. Lawyers on the other hand...

I like to think that I'm scarier than any dead fucker alive.
Angels... make yourselves known and welcome to Planet Earth.

And, uh... good luck with that! Lolz!!!

Otherwise, fuck off and leave our cats alone!!!
