  1. Sticky Thread Sticky: Renew AO Chat

Dear, MM. The chat hurts our eyes. Please renew the license to bring our beloved room back to it's former glory. In return of this, I'm prepared to offer up Red Shift, for one entire night, to use as you see fit. Thanks, Fut

  2. Sticky Thread Sticky: Official Chat Thread

Ladies and gentleman, as some of you have discovered over the past week, Armageddon Online has a live and fully functional chat room. It integrates nicely with the forums - it will log you in based on your forums log in - and it's fully customizable. Almost too good to be true (especially if you had the fortune.... or MISFORTUNE, of trying out the other various chat rooms we have had in the past. ) There are links of the top navbar in most forums styles. There's an option to open a full screen version of the chat or a pop-up window. Direct link to chat : http://forums.armageddononline.org/addonchat.php Link to chat on Main site : http://www.armageddononline.org/chatroom.html Pop-up Window : http://forums.armageddononline.org/addonchat.php?do=popup Who is chatting right now : http://forums.armageddononline.org/addonchat_who.php If you are logged into the forums with your regular account, opening the chat in any way SHOULD log you in automatically. If you are NOT logged into your forums account,...

  2. Poll Poll: Police Brutality/excessive force Sub-Forum?

I think it would be good to have so we can lump all the stories of Police brutality excessive force in one area.

  3. Poll Poll: Gardening section

We have some ads on here for seed and gardening. Maybe we should have a section on Gardening of all types. I think there a people on here that garden and it could be very educational to have a section devoted to it. I am just now getting into gardening meaning I am reading and researching and planning for my garden next spring and summer. ETA: Maybe a gardening/farming/hunting. Not for end times or anything.

  5. Your Thoughts: Entertainment Forum

The Entertainment forum, especially its sub-forums, seems a little scattered. As I look at that forum, it seems a little...half-assed. (The irony is I created the sub-forums years ago.) As we're making minor changes and updates, I would like to get your input on this forum and its subs. Should we leave it alone or should we try and make sense of it? If we attempt to change it, what would your suggestions be? I figure entertainment would include music, movies, internet memes. Right now we have literature included in the forum. Do you think literature deserves its own forum, or should we keep it bundled under Entertainment? Unleash opinions!

Is it possible for money to be taken out of my British bank account without using Paypal? Also, how do I make sure I get the rewards like choosing the phrase under my name? Will the Mods know it's from me? The card is Visa debit. Sorry about the new thread but I couldn't find a donations thread that I could post on.

Could you please move it down BELOW the Off-Topic link? I'm getting sick and tired of clicking that link by mistake and almost posting something in there instead of Off-Topic. 9. Admin Q&A: Nuts & Bolts Safely Explained

I know some of you get annoyed when certain changes take effect, especially when the reasons for those changes are not explained in detail. Many of the changes that occur that some of you complain about seem as if we are simply trying to be dicks, but that is far from the reality. Running a website may seem easy enough, especially with today's user-friendly tools. Although this is true to an extent, running a website the size of AO is no picnic, nor is it cheap. I could write pages on the complications that come with running a website that receives regular, high traffic. But how many of you would read three pages of technical jargon dealing with shared processing power, throttling, data center practices, host server upgrades that result in old code becoming obsolete, migrating from Ruby to Python, adopting AJAX, reducing SQL QUERY, simplifying tables by reducing PHP calls, and on and on? I wage few if any would want to read all that nonsense. That list is an example of issues MetalMilitia and I are...

  11. Trolling Tutorial/Fishing Lessons/Double Posting

Just an idea to bounce around... I ran into this on another forum and in practice it was quite good, even if it sounds a little odd. Once people got used to it, it solved a few rather annoying circumstances that often plague many sites. Trolling might mean different things to different people, and perhaps there is more than one form of trolling, but in a most general sense I'd loosely define one version of it as repeatedly "throwing bait out there to see if anyone bites." Everyone does this to some extent with every new thread usually without causing any offense to most others, so obviously that is not what I'm talking about. There is a big difference between throwing your line into a pond to see if there are any takers, and "trolling" --which can quickly become annoying when you see "the same fisherman" repeatedly crossing familar territory. I could give several examples from this site. One easy way to cut down on this was to initiate a 'No Double Posting' rule, which restrained posters from...

  12. Tech Support

Armageddon Online is a themed site, but it is also fairly diverse. I propose a new forum in the Laid Back Discussion category or a sub-forum under the Off-Topic forum dedicated to technical support unrelated to the website. Technology works faster than we change undies, and new viruses appear every hour; new hardware is released every few months; and sales people constantly bank on convincing customers their product is the best when most of the time it's the opposite. I worked in the IT support field for a decade and even attempted to start my own local business. I couldn't compete with Geek Squad and the likes because they have commercials, though their actual expertise is less than zero. Hell, I used to work for Geek Squad when it first appeared on the scene. I know the dirty side of the business, which mostly consists of customers paying way too much for 15 minutes of work. And today, Geek Squad is absolutely useless, but they charge in excess of $120 for shit that can be done at home for nothing....

  14. Question Politics and Current Events forum split

I think this forum should be split into sub-forums. Current Events is something happening currently and our opinion about it one way or the other. Politics usually involves one side or the other and debate each way. Just a suggestion. What do you all think? :dunno:

  16. There, their now

I noticed reading through my posts an error that I am loath to make- using Their when I mean There. It's a pet peeve of mine, to mix those up- along with they're, of course. So as I was typing the other day I happened to be looking at the screen and I typo'd the word "There" but as I did it auto-corrected to Their. I assume it auto-goes to their because of alphabetical order. I'm looking through the Mozilla options and can't see if there is an option to disable auto-correct. Any ideas?

  17. Filters - Free listening option for free speech

Any chance the underlying architecture of this forum allows for some filtration features? I am not saying that it would be a good idea to blanket filter people any other way than banning them under the existing rules. However, if individually a user had the option to filter any threads started by, and alternatively any posts written by a specific poster, it might be more beneficial than banning or negative rep. Such a system would eliminate the chaff on an individuals users reading selection. It would not violate free speech since the individual user would just choose not to listen to a specific posters drivel. The specific poster is still free to drivel all over himself and to anyone who will listen. You wouldn't even need to have a number next to the user that showed how many people have shut him off; but that would be interesting to see too.

  18. Coups

On a popular website I go to, Bungie.net, someone created a third party script for Greasemonkey. It works for Firefox and Google Chrome. It lets people who use the script have custom profile information that isn't supposed to be on the site, but appears for the user, as well as others who use the script. It lets the users have their own custom avatars that can be pretty much anything as well as custom usernames, custom text, and more. Someone should make a script like that for here, it's completely off-site and so there's nothing the moderators could do about it. So, who wants to make a script so we can have our own custom coups here? Example of coups (I'm Jesus): Coup user edit area example:

  19. Poll Poll: T-Shirts... volume 487

Edit : Yes I made you read this.... deal with it :) Alright my friends. I talked to the local shop again and got a 'stock' price for 100 printed t-shirts quoted. It would simply be the banner ( http://www.armageddononline.org/templates/p3p70bf2_1/images/header_short.jpg ) used on the main site and main forums layout, across the chest. A "quote" across the back of it would make 'em slightly more... plus someone would have to come up with some clever sh*t. If you are interested sign yes. They would go roughly for ~$20-$25USD and be shipped from my dumb ass or the t-shirt shop via UPS / FedEX / ground. I know there was interest gathered about such things, but I have never had more than a handful of requests to meet the demand. Just to let you know, I have to buy the sh*t up front and bite the bullet if we sell 0. I'm not exactly scared of doing it, I just have to know the volume / amount of people DEDICATED to getting it done. Personally I would print 7 for myself and be a walking billboard.......
